Time Chasers is a low-budget 1994 sci-fi drama about an inventor whose time machine becomes a weapon. It's earnest, visibly made on a shoestring, and pitched somewhere between pulp adventure and moral fable. It's for people drawn to ambitious failures—stories where sincerity and constraint create something oddly watchable, even when the seams show.
If you liked this
The Terminator1984
A time-travel thriller with real stakes: changing the past has devastating consequences, and the protagonist must stop an invention from being weaponized. Taut, inventive, and genuinely thrilling in ways Time Chasers reaches for.
But It's been seen by everyone. If you want something fresher, this might feel inevitable rather than surprising.

Twelve Monkeys1995
Another time-travel narrative about preventing catastrophe, but messier and more philosophically tangled. Its atmosphere of dread and confusion about causality shares Time Chasers' core anxiety: can the past actually be changed?
But It's deliberately disorienting and bleak. The fractured narrative style will frustrate anyone wanting clarity.

Back to the Future Part II1989
Time travel used as a weapon by a villain; alternate timelines; the hero trying to undo damage by erasing their own actions. Same narrative bones, but with a massive budget and genuine charm.
But It's a blockbuster. The effortless craft might make you resent Time Chasers' rougher edges rather than forgive them.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
The Philadelphia Experiment1984
Both are sincere, underfunded attempts at ambitious time-travel narratives from the same era, where passion for the concept substitutes for production value.
A low-budget '80s sci-fi film about a military time-displacement experiment gone wrong, starring Michael Paré as a sailor displaced from 1943. It shares Time Chasers' earnest tone, modest means, and belief that big ideas matter more than big budgets.
But The pacing is glacial and the romance subplot feels tacked on. Many scenes exist primarily to fill runtime.

Primer2004
A genuinely low-budget time-travel film that earns its ambition through rigor rather than spectacle. Proves you don't need money to tell a complex, intelligent story about inventors meddling with forces they don't understand.
But It's cryptic and requires total attention. Most viewers find it exhausting rather than rewarding on first watch.

Predestination2014
A time-travel thriller that works backward through causality, asking whether stopping crime before it happens justifies the methods. Twisty and genuinely inventive despite modest means.
But The twist ending divides audiences sharply. If you hate feeling manipulated by a plot, it will infuriate you.

Looper2012
Time travel as a moral quandary with no clean solutions. An assassin must kill his future self; the logic is airtight and the implications are dark. Thoughtful sci-fi about consequences.
But The middle section slows considerably, and some plot mechanics don't survive scrutiny if you think too hard.

Edge of Tomorrow2014
A loop narrative where knowing the future still doesn't guarantee victory. Time as a weapon that corrodes the self. Stylish and kinetic, with real emotional weight beneath the action.
But It's a Tom Cruise blockbuster. Spectacular production design might feel like the opposite of what drew you to Time Chasers.

Tenet2020
Time inverted as a weapon; a protagonist trying to prevent a catastrophe by altering the timeline; ambitious spectacle colliding with narrative confusion. Christopher Nolan's highest-concept time-travel thriller.
But Many viewers find it incomprehensible. The sound design is deliberately challenging, and the plot resists easy understanding.

Donnie Darko2001
A teenager discovers time travel and tries to prevent disaster, but every action compounds the problem. Eerie, philosophical, and unresolved in ways that linger. A cult classic about causality and powerlessness.
But It's deliberately cryptic and requires multiple viewings to parse. Some find that rewarding; others find it frustrating.

12:011993
Both treat time travel as an ethical dilemma for the everyman rather than a action-adventure vehicle. Same register, vastly different budgets.
A Twilight Zone-style short film about a man caught in a time loop trying to prevent a murder, expanded from a much-anthologized story. It's the tonal cousin to Time Chasers: small-scale, earnest, time travel as moral puzzle rather than spectacle.
But At 24 minutes, it's a fragment. If you need a full narrative arc, it will feel incomplete, though deliberately so.

A Sound of Thunder2005
Like Time Chasers, it's a pulp scenario (time machine as tool, past as weapon) exploring serious philosophical stakes. Both prioritize the idea over the execution, and both accept their own limitations.
Based on Ray Bradbury's famous short story about hunting dinosaurs in the past and accidentally changing the future. Bad reviews disguise a genuinely thoughtful exploration of causality and unintended consequences, with an oddly hypnotic mood.
But The CGI is visibly cheap and distracting. The film never recovers from its own artificiality, and the narrative becomes repetitive in its final act.
