The Man Who Feels No Pain

A joyful action-comedy about a young man with congenital insensitivity to pain who becomes obsessed with martial arts. Indian cinema at its most generous: slapstick, heart, beautiful fight choreography, and genuine weirdness. For anyone who loves watching someone discover what their body can do.

Andaz Apna Apna1994

Two comedians wreak havoc on Mumbai in pursuit of a wealthy heiress. It's absurdist, energetic, and has that same gift for making mess into joy. You'll recognize the DNA.

But It's almost thirty years old and the humour is broad; the pacing occasionally feels slack by modern standards.

Drishyam2015

A man uses his knowledge of cinema to outsmart a murder investigation. Like The Man Who Feels No Pain, it finds ingenuity in its premise and builds to something genuinely tense without losing its warmth.

But It's primarily a thriller, so the tone is darker and there's less room for the kind of playfulness that makes the other film hum.

Fukrey2013

Three idiot friends bumble through a con game. The same reckless optimism, the same faith that enthusiasm and loyalty can solve anything. Stupidly charming.

But The humour skews very broad and depends heavily on slapstick and double entendre, which won't land for everyone.

Johnny Gaddaar2007

Crisp noir about thieves in Delhi where nothing is what it seems. It finds real craft in genre storytelling and has that same attention to how bodies move through space.

But It's deliberately understated and refuses the melodrama you might want; some will find that restraint frustrating.

Hera Pheri2000

Three bumbling con men tackle a kidnapping case. Pure chaos cinema—no plot survives contact with these characters. The kind of joyful stupidity that makes The Man Who Feels No Pain tick.

But It's nearly a quarter-century old and the editing is very 2000; some set-pieces drag and the climax is scattered.

Commando - A One Man Army2013

Vidyut Jammwal as a soldier with extraordinary fighting ability who rescues a prisoner. It's a vehicle for physical mastery and has real affection for what action cinema can do.

But The plot is thinner than tissue paper and the acting outside of action sequences is genuinely strained.

Jai Bhim2021

A man uses the law to protect the weak. Structurally it's about ingenuity triumphing over systems, and it has real moral weight alongside its narrative drive.

But It's serious and occasionally harrowing; there's almost no lightness here, which is the opposite of what you're signing up for.

Barfi!2012

A deaf and mute man in love moves through the world with cheerful determination. It has that same belief in finding beauty in limitation and the same refusal to make disability tragic.

But It's deeply sentimental and relies on your willingness to let it be corny; the quirk can feel calculated.
