Jolly LLB 2
Jolly LLB 2 is a Hindi comedy-crime film about an ambitious small-town lawyer clawing his way up in the big city. It's brash, funny, and surprisingly tender—a crowd-pleaser that wraps genuine moral questions inside courtroom chaos and slapstick. Made for anyone who enjoys Hindi cinema's gift for mixing heart with hustle.
Should you watch it?
Watch it if you enjoy courtroom comedy where the satire of a broken justice system lands as sharp as the punchlines, and where a loud, scrappy underdog lawyer wins you over despite himself.
Skip it if you want a tight, serious legal thriller; this one leans into broad slapstick and sermonising speeches, and the courtroom gamesmanship can feel more like a sitcom than a real trial.
What it asks of you: Settle in for a little over two hours with plenty of noisy set pieces and some rambling detours, but expect the energy to stay high and the tone to swing between farce and genuine anger.

Jai Bhim2021
A Hindi-language courtroom drama that grounds itself in real injustice and real heroism. It has the same DNA as Jolly LLB—lawyer versus system—but swaps the comedy for something that lands harder and stays with you.
But Deliberately heavy. It's a film about caste violence and custody, not a crowd-pleaser. The tone never lets up, and there's no winking at the audience.

Pink2016
Amitabh Bachchan as a crusading lawyer defending young women against a rigged system. It has Jolly's moral clarity and courtroom electricity, but trades slapstick for real rage. Every scene crackles.
But The subject matter—sexual assault and victim-blaming—is grim and handled without comedy. It's a sermon, intentionally, and some find that preachy.

Mulk2018
Rishi Kapoor in a quiet, devastating courtroom drama about a Muslim family falsely accused of terrorism. Same scaffolding as Jolly LLB but operating at a lower temperature—intimate, furious, utterly focused.
But Slow-burn and bleak. No laughs, no relief. The victory, when it comes, is bittersweet rather than cathartic.

The wildcard
Something you would not have found on your own.
Witness for the Prosecution1957
Both films pivot on the idea that courtroom victory isn't about truth—it's about theatre, evidence, and knowing what the jury will believe. The lawyer is a magician, not a sage.
Agatha Christie's masterpiece courtroom thriller—the original template for every smart lawyer-versus-everyone story that followed, including Jolly LLB. Billy Wilder's direction is flawless. The twist is genuinely devastating.
But Black-and-white, 116 minutes, no music until it matters. Paced by 1957 standards, which means long. Requires patience and attention.

Andhadhun2018
A crime thriller with the same dark-comic DNA as Jolly LLB—morally murky characters, plot reversals, and a protagonist who's clever enough to survive in a corrupt world. Wildly entertaining and genuinely smart.
But Gets gruesome in spots. The tone whipsaws between comedy and real violence, which can feel tonally unsettling if you're not ready for it.

Section 3752019
Rape allegation case, both sides represented competently, neither character a villain. It shares Jolly LLB's willingness to show the law as a game where truth gets buried under procedure. Gripping and provocative.
But Deliberately ambiguous about guilt. Some viewers want clearer moral ground. It also swings toward dourness and away from any levity.

Kahaani2012
A woman hunts her missing husband through Kolkata's bureaucracy and corruption. It has Jolly's love of Mumbai/Indian-city life, smart protagonists outwitting the system, and genuine surprise in its bones.
But Crime thriller first, everything else second. The tone is grounded and sometimes grim, not comedic.

Rang De Basanti2006
Young idealists crusade against systemic corruption and injustice. It's sweeping, funny, angry, and sincere—the same mix of outrage and hope that animates Jolly LLB, just in a different register.
But Unabashedly sentimental and occasionally heavy-handed about patriotism. The preachiness is part of the point, which doesn't work for everyone.

Natrang2010
Marathi film about an ageing theatre actor clawing toward relevance. Same texture of ambition, small-town hunger, and the gap between who you are and who you want to become. Genuinely moving.
But In Marathi, subtitled. Indie in structure, not a multiplex experience. Slow in places and won't satisfy anyone looking for plot speed.

Aligarh2016
A quiet, principled film about a university professor fighting institutional bigotry and moral cowardice. It shares Jolly LLB's faith in argument and evidence, but directs that faith toward something more fragile than a courtroom.
But Deeply sad. It's a film about systemic cruelty that wins no victories. The quietness can feel like passivity if you need bigger emotional release.

Phir Hera Pheri2006
Same Akshay Kumar in a completely different register—here he's a scammer without a moral bone in his body, not a lawyer with a conscience. Seeing him play chaotic chaos instead of righteous chaos is the gift.
Hindi comedy about two hustlers working angles in the city, starring Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. Pure comic invention—goofy, irreverent, gleefully amoral. No one's better at this register than Akshay.
But Thin plot, zero stakes, everything a joke. If you need emotional weight or coherence, this will feel like watching someone have fun without you.

The Apologies2010
Both show lawyers as people who choose to fight unwinnable wars because they believe in something dumber and purer than winning. The courtroom is the stage; the character is the story.
Israeli series about a woman prosecuting historical sexual abuse cases through the courts. It has Jolly LLB's architecture—law as tool, the system's slowness, individual courage against institutional indifference—but in a completely different context and with real weight behind it.
But Hebrew, subtitled. Heavy subject matter handled with documentary-level seriousness, no levity. Short but dense and sometimes difficult to watch.
