Bodyguard
Other titles called Bodyguard: the 2018 series (BBC One).
A Bollywood romantic action film where a humble bodyguard falls for his employer's daughter without knowing her true identity. It's a glossy, earnest blend of grand romance, over-the-top action sequences, and melodrama—the kind of movie that swings for the fences emotionally and doesn't apologize for it. Perfect if you want spectacle, swagger, and an unapologetic love story.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge1995
The template for modern Bollywood romance: charming, confident male lead, spirited heroine, family complications, and that particular brand of sincere grand gestures that make your heart do backflips.
But The pacing is glacial by modern standards, and the gender dynamics, while progressive for 1995, feel dated now.

Barfi!2012
A silent protagonist, visual storytelling that sings, and a romance that feels genuinely earned rather than imposed. Achingly beautiful filmmaking with real emotional stakes beneath the charm.
But The whimsical tone sometimes undercuts the darker plot threads, and the pacing meanders when it should grip.

Ghajini2008
Aamir Khan at peak intensity: a man with short-term memory loss pursuing justice and love simultaneously. Action, mystery, and genuine emotional weight all turbocharged with style.
But The twist derails the momentum entirely, and the violence is sudden enough to feel gratuitous rather than purposeful.

Something you would not have found on your own.
Johnny Gaddaar2007
Both hinge on mistaken identity and hidden truth, but where Bodyguard resolves into romantic payoff, Johnny Gaddaar lets betrayal be final. Same mechanism, inverted ending.
A heist thriller shot like neo-noir, where betrayal is the actual plot and everyone you trust gets upended. It's what Bollywood looks like when it stops reassuring you and starts unsettling you.
But The bleakness is unrelenting and the resolution refuses catharsis. It's a crime film, not a fantasy.

Bang Bang!2014
Hrithik Roshan at his most charismatic, globe-trotting action sequences that actually thrill, and a chemistry with Katrina Kaif that crackles. Sheer, unapologetic spectacle.
But The plot is paper-thin and the heist logic doesn't survive five seconds of thought.

Dabangg2010
Salman Khan as a corrupt cop who is somehow the hero you root for anyway. The swagger is magnetic, the action is kinetic, and it rewrote what Bollywood action could be.
But The morality is completely inverted in ways that feel uncomfortable, and the treatment of female characters is casually awful.

Raees2017
Shah Rukh Khan as a charismatic smuggler with a code, Nawazuddin Siddiqi as the cop chasing him. Tense cat-and-mouse storytelling with real filmmaking craft underneath the melodrama.
But The second half loses the tight focus of the first, and the ending capitulates to convention when it should have held its nerve.

Death Race2008
A heist-thriller that doesn't pause to explain itself, full of reversals, betrayals, and plot twists that actually land. Slick, propulsive, and genuinely unpredictable for two hours.
But The women are furniture, and the cynicism curdles into something that feels mean rather than clever.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan2012
Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif in a romance that spans continents and years, with genuine chemistry and Yash Chopra's final film getting everything visually gorgeous exactly right.
But It's three hours of plot circling the same emotional beat, and the melodrama eventually tips into self-parody.

All Is Well2015
Abhishek Bachchan in a quieter, more grounded action-romance that values character and wit alongside the spectacle. A palate cleanser that still satisfies.
But It's genuinely forgettable—competent and pleasant in a way that leaves no impression whatsoever.

A Wednesday!2008
Both feature a protagonist of modest means navigating a corrupt power structure, but where the bodyguard wins through devotion and action, this film wins through intellect and manipulation.
Naseeruddin Shah as an ordinary man who outsmarts a corrupt system through a single, audacious bluff. Real-time thriller on a shoestring budget that's more tense than anything with ten times the budget.
But It's deliberately austere—no music, no frills, no comfort. If you want visual poetry or emotional sweep, this isn't it.

Rang De Basanti2006
Both use an idealized hero figure as their center, but where Bodyguard's hero is defined by romantic devotion, Rang De Basanti demands he be defined by conscience. Different religion, same priesthood.
A film about ordinary young people becoming revolutionaries that somehow juggles romance, humor, action, and genuine political rage without dropping a single thread. It has something real to say.
But The tonal whiplash from comedy to violence is extreme, and the ending chooses moral absolutism over nuance in ways that feel preachy.
