Zoidberg

Dr. John Zoidberg is Planet Express's staff physician, a crustacean alien whose medical knowledge is dubious at best. He's perpetually broke, hungry, and starved for affection, scavenging garbage and inviting himself to meals. He wants a friend more than he wants respect, and he'll take being laughed at over being ignored.

Billy West gives him a warbling, panicked voice that makes every terrible pun and mangled English idiom funnier, but the character works because the show never lets his neediness become pure punchline. Underneath the incompetence and the garbage-eating is real loneliness, and Futurama keeps finding moments of surprising tenderness for him.
