Yū Nishinoya

Nishinoya is the libero of Karasuno's volleyball team, small and explosive, throwing his whole body at the floor to keep a rally alive. He introduces himself as the "Guardian Deity of Karasuno," all bravado and wild energy, desperate to prove that defense matters as much as spikes and blocks.

He's a corrective to shonen's usual worship of the flashy scorer: Nishinoya's entire heroism is refusing to let the ball touch the ground, and the show frames his dives and receives with the same awe it gives a kill shot. Okamoto plays him loud, twitchy, and sincere, so the swagger never curdles into arrogance.
