Young Steven

Young Steven is the eldest of the Crain children, already cast as the reasonable one in a house full of strange noises and stranger sightings. He watches over his younger siblings with a mix of big-brotherly patience and mild exasperation, and he is the first to reach for a logical explanation when the walls start to feel wrong.

Paxton Singleton plays Steven's skepticism as armor rather than obliviousness — you can see him choosing not to be scared for the sake of the smaller kids around him. That choice, made so early and so quietly, gives the adult Steven's whole worldview a childhood to grow out of, and makes his denial feel earned rather than convenient.
