Young Shirley

Shirley is the practical middle child of the Crain family, the one who keeps small dead things — and eventually living ones, too — as a way of managing what she can't control. She's watchful, a little prim, and quietly bossy with her siblings, already carrying the seeds of the caretaker she'll grow into.

Lulu Wilson gives Shirley a brittle composure that reads as maturity until you notice how hard she's working to hold it. The show lets a child's coping mechanism — order, ritual, control — sit right alongside real dread, and Wilson never plays it cute; she plays it as survival.
