Young Randall Pearson

Randall is the Pearson triplet who was never quite born a triplet—adopted the same day his siblings arrived, the only Black child in a white family in a mostly white Pittsburgh suburb. He's watchful, anxious to please, achingly smart, and always doing the math on how he fits into a family that loves him but doesn't always see him clearly.

Chavis plays a child carrying an adult's awareness of his own difference, and he never overplays it—the hurt shows in stillness, in a held breath, in how carefully Randall watches his father's face for approval. The show trusts a kid actor with real weight, and he more than earns that trust, making Randall's loneliness legible without a single speech.
