Young Prince Philip

Finn Elliot plays the teenage Philip of Greece and Denmark before he becomes anyone's consort, a prince with no real country, no money, and a chip on his shoulder about both. He's already exiled, already restless, being shuffled between relatives and boarding schools, sharp-tongued and guarded in a way that suggests a boy used to being someone else's problem.

The show uses this stretch to explain the man Elizabeth eventually marries, and Elliot plays young Philip with a wary, defensive charm rather than romantic polish. You see the loneliness under the bravado, the displacement dressed up as toughness. It's a quiet piece of scene-setting, but it makes the adult Philip's prickliness feel earned rather than assumed.
