Yancy Fry, Sr.

Yancy Fry is Fry's ancestor, a small-town New York farmer in the mid-twentieth century, first glimpsed through old photographs and family history rather than in the flesh. He's plain-spoken, hardworking, and largely unremarkable on the surface — a man living an ordinary life with no idea of the strange legacy his family will carry a thousand years later.

Futurama loves burying its warmest gut-punches inside jokes, and Yancy is where that trick lands hardest. DiMaggio plays him with unshowy sincerity, so when the show finally reveals what he actually did and felt, it recontextualizes Fry's whole sense of being unloved. A minor character becomes the series' quiet emotional anchor.
