Yahya

Yahya arrives in Alfred's Wessex as an outsider from a far more cosmopolitan world, his learning and manners marking him at once as different from the mud and iron of the Saxon court. He watches more than he speaks at first, sizing up unfamiliar customs with the patient curiosity of a man used to being the stranger in the room.

The character works as a mirror held up to Saxon England, letting the show comment on its own insularity through an educated outsider's eyes. Bamshad Abedi-Amin plays him with quiet self-possession rather than exoticism, so the contrast lands as intelligence meeting a rougher, younger civilisation rather than as spectacle.
