The joke is entirely in the mismatch between tone and content: catastrophe, absurdity, or deadpan trivia all get the same flat, professional delivery. Tress MacNeille plays it perfectly straight, which is exactly what makes it funny — a running sight-unseen gag that adds texture to Futurama's world without ever needing a face or a story.
