Character
Windom Earle
Windom Earle in Twin Peaks (1990), played by Kenneth Welsh.
A former FBI agent and Dale Cooper's ex-partner, Windom Earle arrives in Twin Peaks as a fugitive from a mental institution, brilliant and unraveling. He communicates in riddles, chess moves, and disguises, treating the town as a board game and Cooper as his opponent in a contest only he understands the stakes of.
Kenneth Welsh plays madness as theater and craft at once, all clipped precision and gleeful menace, so you're never sure if you're watching a genius or a lunatic — probably both. He gives the show's whimsy a genuine predator, someone whose games have real teeth, and that tension between playfulness and dread is riveting.
Windom Earle was a former FBI agent and partner of Dale Cooper, later declared insane following the murder of his wife, Caroline. In 1989, he escaped from custody and set out to exact his revenge on Cooper and find the Black Lodge.
