Wild Bill Hickok

Wild Bill Hickok rides into Deadwood already a legend, and already tired of being one. He drinks, gambles at Nuttall's saloon, and moves through the camp with a weary, watchful courtesy, more interested in cards and oblivion than in the fame trailing him. Charlie Utter is his one steady loyalty.

Carradine plays him as a man haunted by his own myth, gentle and half-checked-out, letting silences do the work where a lesser show would trade on gunfighter swagger. The writing understands that Hickok's reputation is a burden as much as a currency, and Carradine's soft-spoken sorrow makes that burden visible without a word of self-pity.
