Whitley Gilbert

Whitley Gilbert arrives at Hillman College dressed like old Southern money, because she is old Southern money, and she wants everyone to know it. She's vain, particular, and unbothered by how that looks, gliding through the dorm with a wardrobe and an attitude that suggest the world exists to be impressed by her.

Jasmine Guy plays the snob so precisely — the vowels, the posture, the withering pause before an insult — that Whitley becomes funny rather than merely insufferable. The writing lets her be genuinely accomplished and secretly insecure underneath the performance of perfection, so the comedy never has to sacrifice her dignity to get its laughs.
