Washbucket

Washbucket is one of the addled inmates locked away in the robot asylum where Fry and Bender find themselves committed. Introduced as background lunacy rather than a proper character, it shuffles through scenes muttering non sequiturs, utterly disconnected from whatever conversation is happening around it, content in its own broken logic.

Futurama's gift is treating throwaway lunatics like punchlines with their own rhythm, and Washbucket is a pure example: a single, weird outburst delivered with total conviction by Tress MacNeille, who never winks at how silly it is. It works precisely because nobody explains it and the show never slows down to try.
