Wahkatiiosta

Wahkatiiosta is a Mohawk woman of the Kahnawake community where Young Ian comes to live, having lost her own family to sickness. She is watchful and self-possessed, marked by grief but not defined by it, and she meets Ian's presence among her people with a wary, considered warmth rather than easy welcome.

Carmen Moore plays her with a stillness that refuses sentimentality — grief sits in her posture, not her speech. The show could easily have made her a symbol; instead she reads as a specific woman weighing a stranger on her own terms, and Moore's restraint gives their scenes together an unforced, earned tenderness.
