Vivian Kent

Vivian Kent is a magazine journalist chasing the story that will restore her battered credibility: the case of a young woman who conned New York's elite while posing as a German heiress. Heavily pregnant and running on nerve, Vivian pushes into Rikers Island for interviews, certain she can out-report everyone who dismissed the case as a punchline.

Chlumsky plays ambition as a physical state, all forward lean and clenched jaw, so that Vivian's hunger for the scoop reads as both admirable and faintly reckless. The show lets her be unlikeable in useful ways—defensive, competitive, quick to justify herself—which keeps the audience questioning her version of events right alongside her own editors.
