Urbane and unflappable, he mentors and reassures those around him, including Yennefer, projecting the quiet authority of a man who has already thought several moves ahead.

Mahesh Jadu plays him with a stillness that reads as wisdom, all measured tone and patient smiles, which is precisely what makes him such a satisfying puzzle. The writing gives him elegant, reasonable dialogue that never quite reveals what he actually wants, and that composure is the character's whole magic trick.
