Character
Vilgefortz of Roggeveen
Vilgefortz of Roggeveen in The Witcher (2019), played by Mahesh Jadu.
Vilgefortz is one of the Continent's most respected sorcerers, a calm and cultured presence within the mage Brotherhood who speaks of reform and unity even as war looms. Urbane and unflappable, he mentors and reassures those around him, including Yennefer, projecting the quiet authority of a man who has already thought several moves ahead.
Mahesh Jadu plays him with a stillness that reads as wisdom, all measured tone and patient smiles, which is precisely what makes him such a satisfying puzzle. The writing gives him elegant, reasonable dialogue that never quite reveals what he actually wants, and that composure is the character's whole magic trick.
Vilgefortz of Roggeveen (d. 1268) was a Kovirian mage and the de facto leader of the Chapter of the Gift and the Art, the highest ranked of the Brotherhood of Sorcerers. He also had a couple other personal apprentices in the form of Rience and Lydia van Bredevoort, with the latter acting as both his assistant and personal secretary.
