URL
URL in Futurama (1999), played by John DiMaggio.
URL turns up as one of the countless mechanical faces cluttering the margins of Futurama's future — a robot doing a job nobody thinks twice about, gruff and matter-of-fact, more furniture than personality until he opens his mouth and the joke lands anyway.
DiMaggio built a career voicing exactly this kind of throwaway robot, and the trick is always the same: a flat, put-upon growl dropped into absurd circumstances without a flicker of surprise. It's a small role, but that deadpan commitment is what makes Futurama's background hum with life instead of just noise.
URL (pronounced “Earl”) is a robotic police officer for the New New York Police Department. Together with his former partner and friend Smitty, URL is often seen assaulting suspects at the slightest provocation, though for a peace officer, being out of control is part of the job. The pair are sometimes featured on the television show "Cop Department", but they are generally camera crew free.
