Underwater Landlord

A minor figure glimpsed during one of the crew's underwater misadventures, the Underwater Landlord is exactly what the title promises: someone laying claim to property beneath the waves, brusque and businesslike about it despite the absurdity of the setting. He wants what any landlord wants — payment, respect for his territory — regardless of how strange the address is.

Futurama specializes in throwaway roles that turn mundane human types loose in impossible settings, and John DiMaggio's gruff, put-upon delivery makes the joke land instantly. The gag isn't the character's depth — it's the collision of bureaucratic annoyance with a sunken, absurd backdrop, voiced with just enough weary conviction to sell it.
