Ui Ui

Ui Ui is a small, oddly formal child who turns up on the fringes of the Kyoto Goodwill Event, running errands and hauling luggage with an unsettling calm. He speaks little, moves with strange precision, and answers to Mechamaru, whose true purpose he seems to serve without ever fully explaining himself.

He's a sight gag who keeps not staying funny — every scene edges his blank competence a little closer to something stranger, and the show never rushes to explain him. Yuko Sanpei plays him flat and toneless, which makes the character's few odd flickers of feeling land harder than shouting ever could.
