Tyreese Williams

Tyreese arrives with his sister and girlfriend, a broad-shouldered man whose size belies a deep reluctance toward violence. He'd rather talk his way past a threat than swing the hammer he carries, and he keeps hoping the world hasn't gone as ugly as everyone around him insists it has.

Chad L. Coleman plays gentleness as a genuine strength rather than a liability, which is rare in this show's grammar of survival. Tyreese's insistence on holding onto mercy and forgiveness, even when it costs him, gives the series one of its few characters arguing that decency might still be worth the risk.
