Turner is Bertha Russell's lady's maid, sharp-eyed and immaculately composed, moving through the Russell household with a discretion that never quite conceals her ambition. She dresses her mistress, reads every room she enters, and watches the family's social climb with an attentiveness that suggests she wants rather more than a servant's position allows.

Curran plays Turner with a stillness that keeps you guessing what she's actually calculating behind the correct posture and lowered eyes. The show gives her the classic upstairs-downstairs vantage point, but the performance adds a private, watchful hunger that makes her more dangerous than any of the parlor's declared rivals.
