Truffle Hunter 1

A truffle hunter is exactly what the name suggests: someone whose business is sniffing out prized fungi, dropped into Futurama's future-New-York absurdity as a passing bit of local color. He shows up doing his job, unbothered by the show's usual chaos, treating the whole mission of the episode as background noise to his work.

The joke is the flatness of it — a perfectly ordinary occupation transplanted into a sci-fi cartoon without comment, which is very much Futurama's house style. Maurice LaMarche, a voice actor capable of enormous bombast, plays him plain and unfussy, which is its own small pleasure for anyone who knows his range.
