Trek Preacher

A cult leader on a planet of exiled Star Trek fans, he presides over sacred rites built entirely around episode trivia and captain's-log liturgy. He speaks in the hushed, portentous cadence of a man leading a congregation through scripture, except the scripture is Star Trek reruns, and he means every word of it.

Maurice LaMarche's voice work is the whole joke: he plays the absurdity completely straight, giving fan devotion the gravity of religious ecstasy without ever winking at the audience. It's a tiny role that lands because the performance never once concedes it's ridiculous, which is exactly what makes it so funny.
