Translator

Translator appears as exactly what the name promises: a voice whose whole job is turning one language into another for the benefit of the crew, a functional presence rather than a fully drawn personality. Introduced doing that work, it exists to keep a scene moving rather than to be a character with its own wants.

The joke, such as it is, sits in the flatness of the role next to Futurama's usual excess — a show built on grand absurdity pausing to acknowledge the unglamorous mechanics of communication. Tress MacNeille, an actress capable of huge, specific voices elsewhere in the show, brings just enough dry precision to make even a utility part land.
