Tony

Tony turns up on the fringes of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club's world, a loud, self-assured presence who talks a bigger game than he plays. He inserts himself into conversations with total confidence, treating small-town rivalries and hobbyist gossip as matters of real consequence, oblivious to how he lands on everyone around him.

Adam Riches built his name on outsized comic characters who barrel through a scene without noticing the room's discomfort, and Tony is a neat, contained dose of that energy dropped into Detectorists' hushed, deadpan world. The clash of registers is the joke: everyone else is murmuring, and he's the one shouting.
