Toni turns up in the quiet world of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club as someone new among the regulars, unassuming and a little guarded. She has her own reasons for taking up a spade and a headset, and she watches the club's rituals and rivalries with the wry patience of an outsider learning the rules.

Rebecca Callard plays her with a dry, unforced naturalism that suits the show's gentle comic register — she never overplays a joke or a moment of warmth. Toni works because she feels like a real person who wandered into this odd, tender little world, and the show trusts her stillness to do the talking.
