Tommy Lee Royce drifts back into the orbit of a Yorkshire town, a soft-spoken young man with an easy smile that never quite reaches his eyes. He works odd jobs, keeps his head down, and seems harmless enough to anyone who doesn't look closely — but Sergeant Catherine Cawood looks closely, and what she sees unsettles her.

James Norton plays against his own matinee-idol face, using its warmth as camouflage for something cold underneath. The writing lets him charm before it lets him frighten, so the menace creeps in sideways rather than announcing itself. That patience — his and the show's — is what makes him so quietly terrifying to watch.
