Tom Wambsgans

Tom Wambsgans marries into the Roy family and never quite escapes the reminder of it. As a senior executive circling Waystar Royco, he is eager, deferential, and hungry for approval he can't quite secure, always laughing a beat too hard at jokes made at his expense while angling for real standing among people who barely see him.

Matthew Macfadyen finds a whole comic register in flop-sweat ingratiation, turning Tom's neediness into something painfully funny and then, without warning, just painful. The writing keeps testing how much humiliation a person will absorb for proximity to power, and Macfadyen makes every flinch and forced grin specific enough to feel like an actual marriage.
