Tom is Josh's easygoing best mate, the steady presence hanging around the share house while everyone else's lives spin into chaos. He's unhurried, a little stoned around the edges, quick with a joke rather than a plan, and mostly just wants to drift through life without anyone making a fuss about it.

Thomas Ward plays him with an unforced deadpan that never tips into caricature, which is what lets Tom function as the show's ballast — the friend who reacts to disaster with a shrug instead of a speech. That understatement is funnier, and eventually more moving, than any louder performance would have been.
