Tina Russo

Tina Russo is a uniformed patrol officer working the streets out of the Hill Street station, sharp, capable, and unwilling to be treated as anything less than a full partner on the beat. She carries herself with a plainspoken confidence, more interested in doing the job well than in being liked, and finds herself drawn into a complicated rapport with fellow officer Andy Renko.

Megan Gallagher plays her without any of the softening the era often demanded of women in ensemble cop dramas — Tina holds her ground in briefing rooms and on calls alike, and the show lets her competence go unremarked, which was itself the statement. The slow-burn chemistry with Renko works because neither character performs romance; they just keep choosing each other's company.
