Thomas Cranmer

A quiet, scholarly cleric with reformist sympathies, Cranmer moves carefully through a court where faith is dangerous ground. He is thoughtful rather than commanding, more comfortable with texts and argument than display, and finds in Cromwell an ally who shares his caution about how far, and how fast, change can safely go.

Will Keen plays him with a stillness that reads as intelligence rather than timidity — a man weighing every word before he risks it. The writing resists making him a firebrand; his conviction shows in small, deliberate choices rather than speeches, which makes his quiet scenes with Cromwell some of the most attentive in the whole piece.
