The Space Pope

The Space Pope presides over a future where every faith has apparently merged into one tidy, planet-spanning institution, and he rules it with the hushed, absolute authority of a man used to being obeyed. He appears rarely but decisively, settling disputes with pronouncements that are treated as final and sacred, however small the matter.

Maurice LaMarche plays him as a dead-on Marlon Brando impression, which turns every papal proclamation into a Godfather line delivered from a throne. The joke is that the show never explains how religion consolidated this way and never needs to — the character works purely on vocal commitment and the absurd dignity of the premise.
