Character
The Pill
The Pill in Big Mouth (2017), played by Maya Rudolph.
In Big Mouth's ever-expanding gallery of literalized body concepts, The Pill shows up as exactly what her name promises: birth control given a voice and a personality, dropped into the show's ongoing sex-ed chaos to explain herself directly to the kids and to the audience, blunt and unbothered by embarrassment.
The show's whole trick is turning anxiety-inducing biology into a character you can argue with, and Maya Rudolph is one of its best instruments for that — she can make a walking, talking piece of contraceptive information sound simultaneously matter-of-fact and hilarious, which is precisely the tone Big Mouth needs to make squeamish subjects land as comedy.
The Pill is a type of birth control that is designed to be taken orally by women. It includes a combination of an estrogen (usually ethinylestradiol) and a progestogen (specifically a progestin). When taken correctly, it alters the menstrual cycle to eliminate ovulation and prevent pregnancy. It appeared as a personified character in "The Planned Parenthood Show".
