The Ninth Doctor

He arrives in a leather jacket and a northern accent, grinning at Rose Tyler about the end of the world like it's a treat. This Doctor is brisk, wary, quick to anger and quicker to run toward danger, hiding something raw under the jokes. He wants a companion, though he'd never say so plainly.

Eccleston plays the manic energy and the sudden stillness as two faces of the same wound, letting silences do as much work as the grin. He reintroduced the character to a new audience by making the Doctor feel dangerous again — funny, kind, and clearly carrying something he won't discuss.
