Terry Seymour

Terry Seymour is one of the elder statesmen of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club, a fixture at its meetings and a source of long-winded lore about digs past. He treats detecting with quiet reverence, doling out wisdom to the newer members and guarding the club's traditions with mild, good-humoured stubbornness.

Gerard Horan plays him with a lovely deadpan gravity, treating hedgerows and rusty ring-pulls with the solemnity of a man discussing ancient treasure. The comedy comes from how sincerely Terry believes in the club's small rituals, and Horan never winks at the audience — he just lets the earnestness sit there, funny and oddly moving.
