Tara Chambler

Tara Chambler first appears among the Governor's ragtag followers, a reluctant soldier more interested in cracking jokes and playing video games than fighting. When the attack on the prison goes wrong, she's horrified by what her side has done, and that horror sets her on a different path — toward survival, and toward Rick's group.

The show could have made her a stock turncoat, but Alanna Masterson plays her guilt as immediate and physical, not a slow redemption arc. Tara's awkward humor and refusal to posture as tough make her feel like an actual person dropped into a war she never wanted, which is rarer on this show than it should be.
