Stuart Dooley

Dooley drifts through the early seasons of Arlen as Luanne's boyfriend, a shaggy-haired stoner who talks in a slow, half-finished mumble and seems perpetually unbothered by anything resembling a plan, job, or deadline. Hank regards him with barely concealed disgust as the embodiment of everything wrong with kids these days.

He's a small, specific joke told exceptionally well: Mike Judge's own vocal performance turns Dooley's stoner cadence into something almost musical, every sentence trailing off before it commits to a point. Judge voicing the character Hank can't stand adds a sly authorial wink, and Dooley's total imperviousness to Hank's exasperation makes their scenes quietly, reliably funny.
