Steven Crain

Steven Crain is the oldest of the Crain siblings, a horror novelist who has built a career writing about the supernatural without believing a word of it. He treats his family's haunted history at Hill House as material rather than trauma, which has left him practical, emotionally guarded, and quietly estranged from the brothers and sisters who lived it.

The show hands him an ugly irony — profiting off grief he refuses to take seriously — and lets that curdle his relationships before a single ghost appears. Huisman plays the skepticism as armor rather than arrogance, so his rationalism feels like grief wearing a disguise, which makes his inevitable reckoning with belief land harder.
