Stephanie Vanderkellen

Stephanie is the Stratford Inn's spectacularly indifferent maid, a wealthy young woman doing menial work only because her parents insisted she learn responsibility. She treats every task as beneath her, drifts through her duties with a bored sigh, and regards the inn's guests and staff with the weary condescension of someone slumming it among peasants.

Duffy plays Stephanie's snobbery with such total, unblinking sincerity that the character becomes a marvel of comic construction — she never winks at the audience, never softens the entitlement for likability. The joke is always that she believes herself correct, and that unshakable belief is what makes her one of sitcom's great gloriously useless characters.
