Daniel Ezra plays Spencer without a trace of the brooding-athlete cliché — he's open-hearted, funny, easily wounded, and trying hard to do right by two worlds that keep pulling him in opposite directions. The show uses his double life to ask sharp questions about class and belonging, and Ezra makes his decency feel effortful rather than automatic.
