Space Bee #3

Space Bee #3 in Futurama (1999), played by John DiMaggio.

Space Bee #3 buzzes through Futurama's crowded universe as one more oddity glimpsed among the show's parade of alien extras — a background insect-being dropped into a scene, present just long enough to add to the joke before the story moves on to bigger business.

The fun here is scale: even a background gag like Space Bee #3 gets a real voice actor giving it commitment, and John DiMaggio's knack for gruff, off-kilter line readings turns a blink-and-miss-it alien into a tiny, memorable flourish in Futurama's dense comic universe.

At least two Planet Express crews have been sent by Professor Farnsworth to collect space honey from the Space Bees' honeycomb. The Space Bee's sting normally results in instant death if the person stung is not allergic. If the person stung is allergic, the results are much more gruesome as the innards of the stung person will boil out of the eye sockets.
