Sound Effects 5000
Sound Effects 5000 in Futurama (1999), played by John DiMaggio.
A robot built for exactly one purpose: making sound effects on demand, whether anyone wants them or not. It exists at the edge of a scene, chiming in with whatever noise the moment seems to call for, treating the world around it as a stage that always needs a little more punctuation.
The joke is entirely in the premise — a machine so literal-minded it turns the surrounding chaos of Futurama into its own accompaniment. John DiMaggio, already the show's resident voice of blunt robotic personality, gives it just enough deadpan commitment to make a one-note gadget genuinely funny rather than just a gimmick.
Sound Effects 5000 is a peace officer in the New New York Police Department. He appears in the episode "Law and Oracle" as peace officer cadet and befriends Philip J. Fry I.
