Sophie

Sophie is Andy's girlfriend, the steadier half of a couple where he spends his weekends combing fields with a metal detector instead of chasing a career. She's patient but not a pushover, holding down a proper job while he dreams of Anglo-Saxon gold, and she loves him with a fond, weary exasperation that never quite tips into resentment.

The writing never lets Sophie become the nagging girlfriend cliché of a hobbyist comedy; she's given real interiority and gentle humor of her own. Aimee-Ffion Edwards plays the domestic scenes with such warmth and understated wit that the relationship feels lived-in rather than sketched, grounding the show's whimsy in something tender and true.
