Sofia Metz

Sofia Metz is a young girl found alone and near death on the road into Deadwood camp, the sole survivor of an attack on a family of emigrants. Silent with shock, she is taken in by strangers who have no real claim to her, and the camp watches to see who she becomes.

Bree Seanna Wall plays Sofia almost entirely through stillness and watchfulness, which suits a show built on people talking their way around violence. Her muteness becomes a kind of moral instrument in the story, drawing out tenderness in characters who show it to almost no one else, and making her presence a quiet rebuke to the camp's brutality.
