An eccentric, impossibly wealthy industrialist, Hargreeves adopts seven of the forty-three children born mysteriously the same day, raising them as a regimented crimefighting unit rather than a family. Cold, exacting, and secretive about his own origins and true purposes, he assigns numbers instead of affection and expects obedience without explanation.
Colm Feore plays him with a chilly formality that never begs for sympathy, which makes the character's damage land harder than any speech could. The show treats him as a puzzle box of withheld motives, and Feore's clipped, patrician stillness makes every scene he's in feel like it's hiding something worse underneath.
Sir Reginald Hargreeves, also called the Monocle, was an alien scientist disguised as a human inventor and entrepreneur. Cold and cunning, he was renowned for his many great inventions, and adopted seven superpowered children, who he trained to be the Umbrella Academy to protect the world from threats.
