Sir Francis Bryan

Sir Francis Bryan moves through Henry VIII's court as a soldier, diplomat, and cousin to the Boleyns, trading in gossip, favors, and blunt counsel. Missing an eye, unbothered by scruple, he serves whoever is winning and says aloud what others only think, making himself indispensable and faintly dangerous.

He's the court's cynical chorus, a man who has seen enough Tudor politics to trust nothing but self-preservation. Alan Van Sprang plays him with a dry, weathered swagger that cuts through the show's pageantry, delivering venomous one-liners with such casual relish that his amorality becomes, oddly, a relief.
